Celtic have secured the long-term future of defender Colby Donovan with a new five-year contract. The 20-year-old full-back has committed to the club until the summer of 2031, rewarding his rapid rise into the first-team picture.
Manager Martin O’Neill welcomed the news. "Colby extending his contract with the club is fantastic news for us," O’Neill said. The deal was finalised on Monday night, providing a significant boost as Celtic prepare for their next Premiership fixture.
Young talent rising
Donovan is a product of the Celtic Youth Academy and made his senior debut in August 2025. His consistent performances were recognised last month with a first call-up to the Scotland senior squad.
The young defender expressed his delight at the new deal. "I'm over the moon," Donovan said. "As a young boy coming through at Celtic, you thrive to be a first-team player." He has started 15 matches this campaign, contributing to a defence that has conceded only six league goals.
His new contract arrives with Celtic sitting first in the Premiership, holding a four-point lead over Rangers with 27 points from 10 games. The team's next challenge is a home match against fourth-placed Dundee United on Wednesday.
Donovan will be aiming to feature as the champions look to maintain their strong domestic form, which includes a 2-1 victory over Hibernian last time out. The team's overall record this season stands at nine wins and one loss from ten Premiership games, having scored 25 goals. Top scorer Camilo Duran, with six goals this season, was on target in that victory over Hibernian.
