Celtic have secured 17-year-old defender Shea McGarry on his first professional contract. The Irish centre-back has signed a deal that runs until June 2029 after joining from Belfast-based Cliftonville.

Shea McGarry said he is "looking forward to the next few years and progressing as a Celtic player." The club confirmed the move, which sees the teenager transition from the amateur terms of his previous club.

McGarry has already integrated into the development squad, making five appearances for Celtic B since his arrival. He previously made three first-team appearances for Cliftonville in his native Belfast.

The signing adds to Celtic's defensive options as the first team continues its Premiership campaign. The side currently sits top of the standings with 24 points from nine games, holding a four-point lead. Their next challenge is an away trip to face Hibernian on Sunday.

McGarry will aim to force his way into first-team plans over the course of his contract. The first team's recent form has been strong, with the club having won eight of their nine league matches so far this season. Their next fixture is a significant test away to Hibernian, a team they have already beaten 2-1 this campaign. The squad will be looking to maintain their momentum, having scored 22 goals while conceding only 7, an average of less than one goal per game.
