Ella Stensdotter has completed a 1,000-mile charity walk for Celtic FC Foundation. The Swedish walker finished her 53-day journey at the Brother Walfrid statue at Celtic Park on October 16, raising over £13,000.
Stensdotter began her trek on August 25, setting off from the statue of former Celtic striker Henrik Larsson in Helsingborg. She walked through Denmark, Germany, the Netherlands, England, and Scotland, covering more than 20 miles a day with very few breaks. She faced blisters, swollen feet, exhaustion, and cold, wet conditions, pushing through 56 kilometres on one particularly demanding day.
"I undertook the mammoth challenge to raise funds for Celtic FC Foundation," Ella Stensdotter said. Her motivation stemmed from a personal health battle and a deep connection to the club formed through Larsson and her time studying at university in Glasgow.
Jane Maguire, Head of Celtic FC Foundation, thanked Stensdotter for her remarkable effort and fundraising. The achievement arrives as Celtic continue to lead the Scottish Premiership, sitting first with 24 points from nine games, a record of eight wins and one loss. They hold a four-point advantage over Rangers at the top of the standings and have scored 23 goals while conceding only five this season. The club's powerful 7-1 victory over Hearts last weekend, a result from Saturday 17 October, shows the positive momentum at Parkhead. In that match, goals from Kieran Tierney, Benjamin Nygren, a double from Callum Osmand, and efforts from Camilo Duran and an own goal secured the emphatic win. Nygren, the team's top scorer this season with six goals, was on the scoresheet twice.
Their next challenge is an away trip to face Hibernian on Sunday 25 October. This follows a recent run of two wins and three defeats from their last five matches, which included a 4-1 loss to Benfica on Thursday 15 October. Stensdotter's journey, ending at the home of the league leaders, symbolises a unique link between fan dedication and the club's current success on the pitch.
