Celtic were held to a 2-2 draw by Dundee United at Celtic Park on Wednesday, a result that saw their lead at the top of the Premiership shrink to four points. The champions were forced to come from behind twice, with Camilo Duran and Liam Scales on target after Zachary Sapsford and Neil Farrugia had put the visitors ahead.
Top scorer Camilo Duran, who now has six goals this season, opened the scoring in the 18th minute, finishing from a Kasper Hogh assist.
Dundee United responded with two quick goals. Sapsford equalised ten minutes later, set up by Lyall Cameron, before Farrugia fired the visitors ahead just three minutes after that. Celtic defender Colby Donovan was booked for a high challenge on Sapsford shortly after, with VAR checking the incident but not upgrading it to a red card.
Celtic fight back for a point
Celtic, who had dominated possession, eventually restored parity in the 65th minute. Substitute Jota, introduced at half-time, delivered a corner that was met powerfully by the head of Liam Scales. The hosts pushed for a winner, with Mika Baur forcing a point-blank save from United goalkeeper Jack Walton, who was later booked for time-wasting.
The match statistics told a story of Celtic dominance, with the home side having 65% possession and 29 shots to United's 11. Jim Goodwin’s Dundee United defended resolutely to earn a point that moved them up to fifth place.
This result extends Celtic's recent form to just one win from their last three Premiership outings. Their recent form across all competitions now reads two wins, one draw and two losses from their last five matches, following a 2-1 victory over Hibernian on 25 October and a 7-1 win over Heart Of Midlothian on 18 October. The team has scored 25 goals and conceded just six in the league this season, giving them a goal difference of plus 19. They now turn their attention to a trip to face Falkirk on Sunday 1 November, a fixture that presents a significant challenge as Falkirk currently sit seventh in the table. The sides last met in August, with Celtic securing a 2-1 victory.
