Celtic and Rangers have launched appeals against Scottish FA sanctions for crowd trouble at Ibrox. The governing body has ordered both clubs to play their next home Scottish Cup match behind closed doors and pay a £100,000 compensatory fee to the away side.

The SFA said the sanctions were issued under Disciplinary Rule 37, which requires clubs to ensure good order and security and to deal effectively with unacceptable conduct. The charges stem from the Scottish Cup clash at Ibrox on 8 March last season. The governing body confirmed the punishments in a statement.

Appeal hearings scheduled

Hearings for the appeals are scheduled for Monday, 26 October. Both clubs will present their cases to an appellate tribunal on that date. The £100,000 payment from each club must be made within 30 days of the relevant match being completed.

Celtic currently lead the Premiership with 18 points from seven games. They are two points clear of Rangers despite a 1-0 defeat to their rivals on 20 September. The team's focus now turns to their next league fixture, an away match against Motherwell on 11 October.

The club's next home Scottish Cup tie will be played without supporters, pending the outcome of the appeal.
