Brendan Rodgers will address his two contentious departures from Celtic for the first time at a supporter gathering in Glasgow next year. The former coach will make his first public remarks on the matter in almost two years, coming after recent comments from major shareholder Dermot Desmond regarding those exits.

Desmond expressed that Rodgers' conduct and statements were harmful, deceptive, and focused on personal gain. He argued the former manager helped create a negative environment and increased animosity aimed at club executives and directors. Desmond added that any harassment targeting the board or their relatives was completely unjustified and wrong.

"Regrettably, his words and actions have been divisive, misleading, and self-serving," Dermot Desmond said.

Rodgers' Glasgow event

The occasion, called 'An Audience with Brendan Rodgers', is organized by a Celtic-themed podcast and will be held at a major concert venue in Glasgow. A host from the show noted that he and his colleague directly invited Rodgers to take part. It is presented as a chance to talk about two highly debated periods in his time as a manager. Tickets will become available for purchase on a specified date in October.

A complicated history

Rodgers initially departed Celtic for another club early in 2019 during a pursuit of multiple domestic trophies, which upset numerous fans. He came back to the club in mid-2023 to take over from the previous manager and achieved more domestic trophies, though his standing with portions of the support stayed strained. He left once more in late 2025 following disagreements about the club's strategy, afterwards voicing disapproval of its football operations. He is now in charge of a team in Saudi Arabia.

Desmond, Celtic's main shareholder, has upheld the board's conduct. He said Rodgers had the ultimate authority on sporting decisions and was fully supported in signing players, with substantial funds spent on his targets. The present team is still being assembled with considerable financial backing.

The announcement comes as Celtic's current team, led by a new manager, is at the top of the league table. They hold a narrow advantage over their rivals even after a recent loss in the derby. The side's performances indicate they have been scoring regularly this campaign, and their future matches will challenge their league leadership.
