Former Celtic defender Jack Hendry was involved in a furious touchline row with Ange Postecoglou after a dramatic Saudi Pro League match. The Scotland international's Al-Ettifaq side let a two-goal advantage slip against Postecoglou's Al-Nassr, who played the majority of the game with ten men.
Hendry, 31, was visibly angered as Al-Nassr scored three late goals to complete a remarkable comeback. At the final whistle, the defender first argued with several opposition players before a fiery verbal exchange with Postecoglou, who managed Celtic from 2021 to 2023. The former Parkhead boss did not back down, responding in kind as tensions spilled over.
Celtic connections on show
The incident occurred in front of several other figures with Celtic connections. Moussa Dembele, who played for the Scottish champions between 2016 and 2018, started the match for Al-Ettifaq. Jordan Larsson, son of Celtic legend Henrik, was also on the pitch for the same side. Hendry left Celtic in the summer of 2021, just before Postecoglou's arrival at the club, meaning this was their first direct confrontation.
The result continued Postecoglou's strong start in Saudi Arabia, where he has now won his first four matches in charge. Hendry, meanwhile, signed a new long-term contract with Al-Ettifaq earlier this summer, committing his future to the club. The defender's current deal and Postecoglou's winning streak are both detailed on our stats page.
Postecoglou's Al-Nassr were forced to play most of the contest with ten men, making their comeback even more impressive. Cristiano Ronaldo was substituted at half-time for the champions, who fought back to claim all three points. The nature of the defeat clearly frustrated Hendry, whose animated reactions to each late goal culminated in the full-time confrontation.
With the Saudi season underway, Postecoglou will look to maintain his perfect start when his side next play. Hendry and Al-Ettifaq will aim to bounce back quickly from a defeat that saw a commanding lead disappear.
