Vladimir Smicer believes Arne Slot would be a success at Celtic if the offer is right. The former Liverpool player gave his view on the managerial situation as Celtic prepare for a home derby against Rangers this weekend.

Smicer, a former Anfield favourite, said managers like Slot make decisions based on the proposal they receive. "Managers like Arne Slot will go to a club based on the offer they receive but Celtic or Rangers like Liverpool are two really big clubs," Smicer said. He acknowledged the difference between the English Premier League and the Scottish Premiership but remained confident in Slot's potential.

"Yes the Premier League is different to the Scottish Premiership but if he wanted to come in after Martin O’Neill or take over at Rangers, he would be a success," Smicer added.

Slot managed Liverpool and won the English Premiership title in his first season before being replaced by Andoni Iraola. His name has been mentioned in connection with Celtic as pressure builds on current manager Martin O'Neill following recent results. Celtic lost 3-0 to Rangers on September 13 and were beaten 3-1 by Ferencvaros in their last outing on September 17.

Despite those back-to-back defeats, Celtic remain top of the standings with 18 points from six games. They hold a five-point lead over second-placed Rangers ahead of the next meeting between the sides. However, their recent form shows they have conceded 7 goals in their last 180 minutes of football, a detail clear in the team's stats.

The club has previously considered reappointing Martin O'Neill or turning to Robbie Keane after a managerial departure. With key players like Yang Hyun-Jun, Alistair Johnston, Callum Osmand and Jota currently sidelined, the focus turns to the immediate challenge. Celtic host Rangers at home on September 20, looking to extend their lead at the summit.
