Celtic are on the verge of signing Bodo/Glimt striker Kasper Hogh to replace Daizen Maeda, who left for Ipswich Town in a £10m deal. Manager Martin O'Neill believes Hogh's Champions League experience makes him a perfect fit for the Hoops.

What does Hogh bring to Celtic?

The 25-year-old Danish forward scored 17 goals and provided five assists in the Eliteserien last season. He also netted five times in the Champions League, matching the record for most goals by a Danish player in a single campaign. Hogh's eight goal involvements were the most by a Danish player in a single Champions League season.

O'Neill said, "We're looking for a player who has scored goals in the Champions League. That's the calibre of player we need."

Why is Hogh the right replacement for Maeda?

Maeda scored 17 goals in all competitions last season and was a key player in Celtic's domestic double. His departure leaves a big gap, but O'Neill is confident Hogh can fill it.

"For most of last season, we struggled to score goals," O'Neill admitted. "Maeda came up brilliantly in the last six or seven weeks, but we didn't have that recognised striker. Hogh would be a big plus for us."

What's next for Celtic?

Celtic finished third in the Scottish Premiership last season with 67 points, three points behind leaders Heart of Midlothian. They ended the season on a five-game winning streak, including a 3-1 victory over Hearts on May 16.

The Hoops will begin their title defence on August 3 against Dundee FC. They will also face Hearts again on October 17, with the Edinburgh side currently top of the table.
