Celtic star Daizen Maeda is expected to leave the club this summer. The Japanese wide player was close to securing a deal with Wolfsburg last season, but the move fell apart after Celtic failed to line up a replacement in time.

What happened?

Maeda had a mixed season, looking a shadow of his former self for large parts before bursting into life and helping the club secure the league and cup Double under Martin O'Neill with a brilliant scoring run late on.

Why it matters for Celtic

Former Hearts and Motherwell midfielder Andy Halliday believes Maeda is a definite exit this window for Celtic, who have their player at the World Cup right now. Halliday feels business could take a little bit longer to get done with players on international duty and unavailable for immediate transfer discussions.

What comes next?

Halliday told the Scottish Football podcast: 'It will be slow at the minute but that goes both ways. Yang's at the World Cup, Nico Raskin came on for Belgium and made a really positive introduction so that goes both ways.' | Player | Status | | Daizen Maeda | Leaving | | Reo Hatate | Possibly leaving | | Arne Engels | Attracting interest

Celtic will need to replace Maeda if he leaves, and Halliday thinks there will be plenty of business done in the next few weeks.
