Celtic secured a 2-0 victory away to Motherwell on Sunday to strengthen their position at the top of the Scottish Premiership.
Celtic dominated the match at Fir Park, registering 25 shots and 56 per cent of possession. Duran’s early strike settled the visitors, and Nygren’s goal, assisted by K. Hogh, effectively sealed the points. The result means Celtic have 21 points from eight games, maintaining their perfect away record in the league this season.
Jota makes long-awaited return
The 27-year-old winger had been sidelined since April 2025 with a cruciate ligament injury. His cameo appearance was a positive moment in an otherwise routine victory.
Former Manchester United chief scout Mick Brown highlighted the significance of the player’s comeback. “Having Jota back is going to be a huge boost for Celtic both on and off the pitch,” Brown said. The club is understood to be assessing wide options ahead of the January transfer window to ensure ample cover.
Looking ahead
The victory provides a solid platform before Celtic’s next Premiership fixture, a home match against third-placed Heart of Midlothian on 18 October. C. Duran, who now has four goals in eight league appearances this term, will be a key figure.
