Celtic have confirmed the departure of first-team coach Gavin Strachan, who has joined West Bromwich Albion. Strachan, the son of former Celtic and Scotland boss Gordon, spent six years at Parkhead.

What happened?

Celtic are currently 3rd in the League with 67 points from 33 games, having won their last five matches, including a 3-1 win over Dunfermline on 2026-05-23. Gavin Strachan has previous experience working in England, having been an assistant manager at Doncaster Rovers and Peterborough United.

Why it matters for Celtic

Martin O'Neill, the Celtic manager, praised Strachan's contribution to the team's success, saying: "I have only really known Gavin for the past six months, but his contribution was vital to our success." O'Neill has committed to another season in charge, with Shaun Maloney, Mark Fotheringham, and Stephen McManus expected to continue in their roles.

What comes next?

Strachan joins James Morrison's coaching staff at West Bromwich Albion, alongside assistant head coach Matt Gill and fellow first-team coach Tony McMahon. Morrison said: "It's great to have Gilly on board for the coming season because he's a great coach and I enjoyed working with him last year." | Stat | Value | | League standing | 3rd | | Points | 67 | | Recent form | WWWWW |
